In a Yahoo Article written by Henry Bloget, it is discussed how apple may be worth up to 1 trillion in the near future.

Apple is one of 4 companies to ever reach this mark
-Apple is worth more then the gross domestic product of Poland, Belgium, Sweden and even Saudi Arabia.
-Why? because Apple’s stock still is not expensive on traditional valuation measures.

Briggs Chapter 6

Photos are worth a million words. This is stressed greatly by Briggs in chapter 6. I think that stories can be told over and over again but may change over time. A photo stays the exact same no matter who is seeing it. A photo that I feel I feel is worth a million words is the epic photo of D-Day, June 6th 1944.

Briggs goes on and talks about the different elements of photography. He talks about different tips using Photoshop and other editors.

Different sites are also mentioned to upload and store photos online. Some of these sites include
Flicker
Photobucket

iPad 3 Facts? Maybe..

I came across this article by John Cox that really gave me an idea of the major “what if’s” that are hidden behind the up and coming iPad 3

Some of the major things discussed in this article are:

– Two stock analysts are predicting that iPad 3 will only be the first Next iPad launched in 2012.
– The second: a “smaller, more affordable” iPad with a 7-inch screen and a price tag of $299.
– There will be an “iSmall” which will be the cheaper version of the iPad 3.
– iPad 3 will have tapered edge and 8 megpixel back camera.

Briggs Chapter 5: Going Mobile

Technology has come a very long way within the last 10 years. It has gone from big bulky cell phones to the smallest way to record and spread your message about anything. Briggs talks about mobile journalism in chapter 5.

According too a newspaper in London, on average, a person gets their first cell phone at 8 years old. I know me personally, I got mine at 16 but that was back in 2006. I feel old!

Briggs also talks about two different types of mobile journalists: Gearheads and Light Packers.

Gearhead is more of a hardcore mobile journalists. when out on the field they always have their laptop, internet connection, camera, video camera, tripod, and an audio recorder. That’s a lot to handle!
A light packer is more of what I am. It’s a journalist that is really on the go. The only thing they really need is their phone and they are good to go!

Briggs Chapters 3 and 4

Briggs Chapter 3
Chapter 3 really went in on the topic of crowed-source reporting and open-source reporting. Before reading this chapter, I honestly really didn’t know what they were about. It really opened my eyes to what I have been overlooking.

Crowed-sourcing is important because it really depends on its committed users to keep everything up and running with correct information. Sites such as Wikipedia take this approach. Wikipedia allows its users to update any information on their site. This has its pros and cons. Its good because they don’t have to have as many employees as a company that doesn’t allow it but then again there are some crazy people on the internet that will write almost anything.
Open-source reporting is a set of tools that really connects the writer and the readers. An example of open-source reporting would be twitter and facebook. Everyone is a journalist and can really put how they feel and what they think out into the open for others to read.

Briggs Chapter 4

This chapter was totally about micro-blogging. When I read that term, I had no idea what that was. I went on to read more and micro-blogging is defined as the posting of very short entries or updates on a blog or social networking site, typically via a cell phone. First thing that popped into my head was twitter.

Twitter is a great way to get breaking news about absolutely anything. I know my personal twitter is filled with information about George Mason because almost everyone I follow is on from GMU. I also follow various news sources that really keep me up to date with world events. Micro-blogging is a very useful tool that will only continue to grow within the next few years.

Here are some highlighted noted I took from this lecture

– “Digital tools are so versatile that they are only limited to our imagination” Buttry
– “You don’t use all tools on a single story or it just becomes chaotic” – Buttry
– Twitter’s natural character limitations keep sentences at an appropriate length for journalism articles
– Stories can be told in 140 characters or less
– “Most digital storytelling is going to take considerable planning”
– The use of time-lapse photography provides a powerful visual, especially when dealing with natural disasters.
– “As social media is transforming journalists, is it doesn’t all have to be the journalist doing it all”
– Digital story-telling is frequently non linear
– “One of things that I think is important about digital storytelling is trying new things”
